Basket Artist Jeanette Fleury
I started making baskets about 1990 when I took a class at Big Rapids High School Adult enrichment program. I was hooked! Or should I say woven! I began to go to the Annual Basket Convention shortly after that, about 1994. Here I pressed myself into classes that challenged skills and techniques. I learned how to make all different kinds baskets-ash, oak, tropical reed and used many different kinds of weaving techniques.
When I retired in 2001, I joined a Guild of Basketmakers that meets monthly in Mt. Pleasant. Through our selections of baskets I have learned yet more skill and techniques.
I started teaching basketry at Artworks in about 2005. I enjoy passing on the skills I have learned to others.
This is an enjoyable hobby and one that brings me great satisfaction.
